Run your pointer across the strings

There is no shortage of guitar videos. There is a shortage of order.

A thousand tutorials will show you a thousand things. None of them will tell you which to learn first, or what to leave until your hands are ready.

This book does. Tune, first note, chords, strumming, scales, then pieces. Each page prepares you for the one that follows, and 92 videos show you how it should look and sound.

The path through the book

Seven stages, in the order your hands will thank you for.

  1. Tune

Six strings, named and tuned. Elephants And Donkeys Grow Big Ears, and you will never forget them.

  2. Your first note

One finger, one fret, one clear sound. Posture and the anatomy of the guitar come first, so the note comes easily.

  3. Chords

Major, minor and sevenths, then the sharps and flats, each with a chart you can read at a glance.

  4. Strumming and picking

Rhythm before speed. Down, down up, up down up, until your right hand keeps time on its own.

  5. Scales and tablature

Common scales and the blues scale, and how to read tab, note values and dynamics.

  6. First pieces

Ode to Joy, Amazing Grace, When the Saints Go Marching In. Short, familiar, and yours within the first weeks.

  7. Full pieces

Greensleeves, Skye Boat Song, Andantino in Am, Etude in Em, Ullapool Jig and Wilderness, each with a QR code to its video lesson.
